BEDFORD – Terry Gean Sorrells, 74, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2024, at his residence.

Born August 26, 1949, in Huron, he was the son of Laverne and Helen Louise (Stroud) Sorrells.  Terry married Karen Blackwell on May 6, 1967 and she survives.

Terry was a 1967 graduate of Mitchell High School and obtained his Bachelors of Science degree from Adam Smith University.  He was a veteran of the Army, serving in the Vietnam War, and was a member of the American Legion Gillen Post 33.  Terry was also a member of the Lawrence County Vietnam Veterans Organization, serving as their first commander. He had worked in several positions in safety and law enforcement over 44 years, and retired after 25 years in explosive safety at NSWC Crane.  Terry was of the Christian Faith. 

Surviving are his wife, Karen Sorrells of Bedford; children, Dayna Sorrells of Bedford, Dustin (Melissa) Sorrells of Mitchell, and Danny (Talesha) Sorrells of Bedford; and grandchildren, Dayson Sorrells, Dannah Sorrells, Delaney Sorrells, Lillie Barnett, Donovan Terry Sorrells, and Amaryss Munyanyi.   

His parents and brothers, Richard L. Sorrells, Ronald “Ronnie” L. Sorrells, Steven “Mike” Sorrells, and Jerry D. Sorrells, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 25, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Bro. Ted Johnson officiating.  Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Gillen Post No. 33.  Cremation to follow.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 24, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Lawrence County Vietnam Veterans Organization.
