BEDFORD – Valena Yvonne Whitner, 69, passed away Monday, May 18, 2026, at Redcrest Hospice House in Bloomington, surrounded by family.
Born August 30, 1956, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Henry Clay and Bettie Marilyn (Connerley) Osborne. She married John Michael Whitner on September 24, 1982 and he survives.
Valena was a 1974 graduate of Mitchell High School and worked at Visteon for many years. She cherished spending time with family, and was a loving mother and grandmother.
Surviving are her husband, John Michael Whitner of Bedford; daughter, Nichole Ann Whitner of Bedford; granddaughter, Tessa Dawn Finney; and siblings, Terrance “Terry” (Joetta) Osborne of Mitchell, Timothy “Tim” Osborne of Bedford, and Joe Osborne of Mitchell.
Her parents; daughter, Stacey Dawn Orman-Glotzbach; grandchildren, Derek Middleton Finney and Chayce Glotzbach; and siblings, Tracy Osborne and Vanessa Irwin, preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 22, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Pastor Dwight Dunbar officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home.
