MITCHELL Vertis Donald Hall, 87, passed away at 5:34 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at his residence.
Born May 24, 1924, in Mitchell, he was the son of John and Blanche (Enochs) Hall. He married Viola June Blackerby October 19, 1946.
He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the 12th Amphibious Landing Craft Division, which was in charge of landing tanks on Omaha Beach on D-Day. Vertis was a member of American Legion Post No. 250. He was a founder and life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107, and was instrumental in the construction of the building.
He retired from GM Powertrain and was a member of UAW Local 440. Vertis was a former deacon and member of Gibsonton Baptist Church in Gibsonton, Florida.

His parents; son, Morris Lee Hall; brothers, Robert Hall and Lloyd Hall; and sister, Loretta Arnold, preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 6, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Rev. Mac Clements officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.
Friends may call from 2:00-7:00 p.m. Saturday and from 12:30 p.m. until the service on Sunday at the funeral home.
