MITCHELL – Willie Paul Melton, 75, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2020, at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born November 15, 1944, in Somerset, Kentucky, he was the son of Bryce and Essie (Thacker) Melton.  He married Carolyn (Baker) Grow October 20, 1984.

Paul worked many years at Mills Market and retired from Jay-C Food Store.  He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1962 and was a member of Mitchell Masonic Lodge No. 228 F. & A.M.  He enjoyed woodworking, watching western movies, and collecting western memorabilia.   Yardwork, landscaping, and being with his family were his favorite activities.

Paul was a member of New Hope Community Church and loved his church family.

His parents; stepdaughter, Carrie (Grow) Christie; and grandson, Blake Logan Grow, preceded him in death.

Graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, October 25, at Mitchell Cemetery with Pastor Donnie Sanders officiating.

    I hate to see this. God is bringing his workers home. Met Paul in the late 70's When Phyllis went to work at mills market. Paul has ALWAYS been a wonderful person that i can remember. No matter how big the problem was around him at work he took the "few seconds" he could to speak TO you. I knew he said he retired but i never seen that Paul. Praying for you all.

    Paul was good friends with my dad Russell Lewis at Mills Market. What a friendship they had. After dad retired, Paul would come out to dad's and such joking and laughter there was. I got aquainted with Paul through dad, he will be missed by many.

    Paul always took time to talk to my grandfather Ellis ...many,,many years ago when the MiIls Market was located in downtown Mitchell. I wonder if his children remember the name Paul gave to their grandmother-Beulah Knight? He jokingly referred to her as Granny Grits after a dish she prepared for them once. The name stuck and the small children called her "Grits" thereafter. So pleased to see he had a good life and large family. He treated ours with respect and appreciation.
