Ben Dorsett, Jr., 91, died Wednesday, July 25, 2018, in Venice, Florida of heart failure. With him when he died was his beloved wife, Judy, and his daughter, Lynn.
Born August 7, 1926, in Mitchell, he was the son of Ben and Dewey (Terrell) Dorsett.
He graduated from Bedford High School in 1944. After marrying Marie Gyger and serving in World War II, he graduated from Indiana University.
Ben spent much of his adult life in Dayton, Ohio where he worked for Frigidaire and for GMAC. In Dayton, he was Director of Antioch Shrine’s mounted horse patrol, and he rode with them in two Rose Bowl Parades.
Ben met the love of his life, Judy, while working as a VP for GMAC in New York City. In 1986, Ben and Judy retired to Manasota Key in Florida where they have many good friends.
A small family gathering will be at Huron Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Shriner’s Hospital for Children or Tidewell Hospice in Sarasota, Florida.
