MITCHELLDenzil G. Blackwell, 84, Mitchell, passed away at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2007, at his residence.

Born November 22, 1923, in Lawrence County, he was the son of George and Roxie (Williams) Blackwell. He married Orpha Louise Horner March 23, 1946, and she preceded him in death February 12, 2001.

He retired from Lehigh Cement Company in 1981 with 37 years of service, and was a member of Spice Valley Baptist Church.

He was in the U. S. Army during the invasion of Normandy and received an EAME ribbon with five Bronze Stars during his service in World War II. He was a member of Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250.

Denzil was a wonderful husband, dad, and papaw. He was truly proud of each and every one of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren!

His parents and sister, Helen Young, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 30, in the Memorial Chapel of the Chastain Funeral Home with Rev. Lewis Williams officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 and Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Friends may call from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday and from 10:00 a.m. until the service on Friday at the funeral home.
