MITCHELL Ralph E. Erwin, 87, Mitchell, passed away at 7:45 p.m. Saturday, December 18, 2010, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehabilitation Center.
Born June 9, 1923, in Mitchell, he was the son of Frederick Ralph and Levina (Sanders) Erwin. He married JoAnn Vest August 3, 1947.
He retired from Lehigh Cement Company and had also been employed at Roberts Brass. He was a 1941 graduate of Mitchell High School, and a member of the First Baptist Church and Hoosier Hills Amateur Radio Club.
Ralph was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of the 749th Tank Battalion, and the recipient of five Bronze Stars. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 250.

His parents, and brother, Paul Erwin, preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 22, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Graham officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.
Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Chastain Funeral Home and from 10:00 a.m. until the service on Wednesday at the church.
