SALTILLO Rowena M. Freed, 95, Saltillo, passed away at 5:50 p.m. Thursday, December 2, 2010, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehabilitaton Center.
Born May 11, 1915, in Washington County, she was the daughter of Leland Elbert and Martha Jane (Hayes) Smith. She married Burl Grant Freed November 5, 1949, and he preceded her in death November 19, 2004.
Rowena was a homemaker and a member of the Saltillo Christian Church where she was pianist for more than 30 years. She also was known for making dolls.

Her parents; husband; son, Reginald Grant Freed; and brothers, Wilbur Arlest Smith and Richard Smith, preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 5, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with Bro. Robert Holler officiating. Burial will be in Saltillo Cemetery.
Friends may call from noon until the service on Sunday at the funeral home.
