BEDFORD – Shawna Donielle Williams, 54, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2024, at IU Health Hospice House.

Born April 7, 1970, in Carmel, she was the daughter of Jerome “Jerry” Horn and Donna Lee (McKinney) Decker.  Shawna married David Williams on July 18, 1992 and he survives.

Shawna was a 1989 graduate of Mitchell High School.  She then went to Purdue University and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Troy State University in Biology and Physical Science.  Shawna homeschooled her two sons for 16 years and after they graduated, she worked at Jill’s House Memory Care as an Activities Coordinator.  She worked as a nurse, volunteered at a crisis pregnancy center for years, and visited and volunteered at nursing homes.  She was an AFFA certified aerobics instructor and she loved Jesus, and God’s creation; watching wildlife, hiking, biking and camping.  Shawna was a very active member of the churches she attended, starting when she taught Sunday school at 16 years old.  She went to churches in Alabama, South Carolina, and finally at Tulip Street Christian Church in Mitchell.  Shawna taught children’s church, helped with vacation bible school and youth groups, and participated in women’s programs, missions ministry, and bell choirs.  She also enjoyed attending other churches in the area. Shawna participated in short-term mission trips in various places in the United States, Belize, Honduras, and Kenya.  She was active in the Little Theater of Bedford and The Chosen.  Shawna volunteered as a drop-off coordinator for Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child in Lawrence County for several years.  She was a devoted wife, mother, and friend.

Surviving are her husband, David Williams of Bedford; sons, Joseph David Williams of Bedford and Nathan Lee Williams of Bedford; father, Jerome “Jerry” Horn; step-mother, Janet (Williams) Horn; brother, Jered (Laura) Horn of Joplin, Missouri; five step-siblings; and several nieces and nephews.

Her mother preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 31, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Brother Jim Valentine, Brother Darrin Chastain, and Brother Daniel Lee officiating.  The service will be live-streamed on the Chastain Funeral Home Facebook page.  Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, and from 10:00 a.m. until the service on Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child.

David, Joseph, Nathan, all of the Haste, Horn, and Williams' families who cherished Shawna: my sincere condolences. We talk about love and loss in the same breath; the love she poured into all of us remains forever, long after the physical has left us. Shawna was beautiful inside and out, she always was. Thank you for sharing her, the beautiful words and pictures and stories from her earthly life, your smiles through your hearts' pain are evidence that she left a lasting impression on you. The love of Jesus on earth still shines from you. May God bless and keep you in perfect peace because of the hope He has given us.

Shawna was a friend and team member of Operation Christmas Child, Mid-South Indiana. Her faithful dedication to facilitate thousands of shoeboxes (aka gospel opportunities) going to children around the world, will surely return 10 fold lives given to Jesus. She will be greatly missed.

I remember one time when we (Woodward's, Batz's, William kids) were hiking and Sawna came out to join us. She was terrified of the bugs but still had a great time. I am sorry for your loss. She will be missed.
