MITCHELL John “JJ” Johnson, 63, Mitchell, passed away at 4:14 p.m. Friday, April 15, 2011, at Indiana Health Bloomington.

Born October 1, 1947, in Mitchell, he was the son of John Reuben and Ruth Irene (Gilbert) Johnson. He married Rita Mae Capien March 14, 1970.

He retired from Lehigh Cement Company and was owner of JJ’s Taxidermy. He was a member of the Bedford Boat and Sportsman Club and National Rifle Association. He loved hunting, fishing, and worshipped his grandchildren.

He was a U. S. Navy Seabee, military policeman, and veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 250.

His parents and brother, Ronald Reuben “Nub” Johnson, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with Bro. Jim Russell officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Monday and from 9:30 a.m. until the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
