BEDFORD – Orville “Buzz” Louis Cook, 74, passed away Thursday, October 24th, 2024, at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born May 18, 1950 in Munich, Germany, he was the son of Denver Cook and Charlotte Louise (Mellor) Leeson.
Buzz was a 1968 graduate of Rantoul Township High School. Most recently, he continued his education and received his Associates in Ministry degree. Buzz retired from the US Army as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 in Aviation Maintenance after 23 years of service. Buzz had also worked for Roots RV, managed a Kentucky Fried Chicken, and worked as an aviation mechanic at the Virgil I. Grissom Municipal Airport in Bedford. He was a member of New Life Missionary Baptist Church and loved participating in church and leading music. Buzz always enjoyed singing in church groups and for the residents of the local nursing homes. He also cherished his work with The Emmaus Walk Retreat, guiding participants and speaking at all levels. He was passionate about aviation, and enjoyed time spent working on airplanes. Buzz loved his family, his extended family, his beloved dogs, Emmy, Sammy, and Bishop, as well as many pets he cared for over his life.
Surviving are his children, Jennifer (Hunter) Moore of Atlanta, Georgia, Jeff (Jane Ong) Cook of Rancho Santa Margarita, California, Denise (Terry) Godsey of Bedford, and Robert (Amanda) Pruett of Bedford; grandchildren, Brayson Pruett, Jayden Kemp, Riley Pruett, and Brynlee Godsey; companion, Diana Pruett of Bedford; the mother of his children, Vicki (Wayne Hopper) Cook of Orleans; siblings, Joyce (David) Fox of Seguin, Texas, and Darlene (Wayne) Reid of Upland, California.
His parents preceded him in death.
Cremation has been chosen.
Celebration of Life service will be from 10:00-12:00 on Saturday, November 2, at the New Life Missionary Baptist Church, 3657 Tunnelton Road, Bedford, Indiana.
