MITCHELL – Walter W. “Coonie” McCune, 98, formerly of Huron, passed away at 5:55 p.m. Thursday, January 31, 2013, at IU Health Bedford Hospital.

Born November 29, 1914, in Cuzco, he was the son of Isaac and Ida Luella (Parsons) McCune.  He married Bonnie Burton October 27, 1937, and she preceded him in death November 4, 1994.

He retired from Naval Weapons Support Center—Crane, was a member of Pleasant View Church of Christ, and a graduate of Cuzco High School.

Surviving:          sons, Lanny (Minnie) McCune, Seymour
       daughter-in-law, Kathryn McCune, Huntingburg
         granddaughter, Carrie McCune, Dillsboro
                    brother, Howard McCune, French Lick

His parents; wife; son, Charles McCune; grandson, Marty McCune; and siblings, Elwood McCune, Peck McCune, Irene Lewis, Theo Deal, Harold McCune, Vernon McCune,and Wayne McCune preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 5, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Bro. Don White officiating.  Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Monday and from 9:30 a.m. until the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.

    Lanny and family: You are all in our thoughts and prayers at this time. Coonie was a good friend to my dad, Charlie Johnson (Huron). He had the most beautiful red chevrolet convertible that he let me ride in the 1st Huron Memorial Day parade when I was queen. He and Bonnie were great people.
